About the Bulletin
Watershed Science Bulletin is the journal of the Association of Watershed and Stormwater Professionals (AWSPs). This peer-reviewed journal is published semiannually and features practical, science-based solutions to watershed and stormwater management issues.
Mission
Watershed Science Bulletin is the first publication to directly serve the community of watershed management professionals. These busy professionals typically do not have access to academic research databases for the numerous disciplines that inform watershed management. The journal's mission is to synthesize both research and experience from these disciplines and transmit this valuable information to those who need it to protect and restore their watersheds. Therefore, the information provided in the Bulletin is vital to the continuing education of watershed management professionals.
- Through the promotion of watershed and stormwater management, the journal seeks to:
- Meet the needs of its members by providing technical materials that support their work
- Inspire and empower individuals and communities to engage and implement effective practices that benefit their watersheds
- Disseminate cutting edge watershed and stormwater management practices, methods, and tools
- Support comprehensive watershed management for diverse watershed types that is integrated with land use planning
- Ensure that regulations maximize benefit to water resources and are implemented in a manner that achieve intended results
Readership
The Bulletin's readership derives from the Center for Watershed Protection's supporters, partners and clients of 20 years - a universe of 20,000+ professionals. Each issue reaches 15,000 readers in print and digital format, including the members of the Association of Watershed and Stormwater Professionals and other leaders in the field of watershed management. The Center's constituency consists of: municipal government staff from planning, engineering, public works, parks, utilities and other departments; private consultants in engineering, landscape architecture, forestry, and environmental science; community organizations working to implement on-the-ground restoration projects; state and federal government regulators and scientists; and University professors educating others about water issues.
Content
Each issue of the Bulletin revolves around a central theme related to watershed and stormwater management, and engages readers with information on the latest policies, research, case studies, and technologies related to that theme. Articles published in the Bulletin are peer-reviewed by an Editorial Committee composed of nationally-respected watershed and stormwater management professionals. The peer-review process is designed to ensure that the Bulletin is a credible, relevant, and valuable resource for its readers.
Submitted articles are selected for publishing based on their quality, presentation of original or novel information, ability to further the mission of the journal, and relation to the central theme of the journal issue. In addition to providing a publication forum for watershed and stormwater professionals across the country, the Bulletin also features articles that showcase the work and perspectives of the Center for Watershed Protection, AWSPs members and other industry leaders. Other content includes: commentary from industry professionals; updates and news related to key watershed issues; a calendar of upcoming events; information on sources of funding for watershed work; featured new technologies; job announcements and more. As the journal evolves to meet the needs of its readers, some of the sections may change over time.
